Provincial Preceptory of Improvement (P of I)
The Province of Essex operates a Provincial 'Preceptory of Improvement' at the Chelmsford Masonic Centre, County Hotel, Rainsford Road, Chelmsford. Attendance is open to all Knights Templar, who can be assured of a warm welcome.

P of I is held on the second Sunday of the month from September to June, except for November when it is held on the first Sunday
  • 10.00 for a 10.30 start.
  • Dress is casual but you are required to bring along your sword and belt.
  • Meetings commence with an opportunity to learn, practice or keep up to date with sword drill, followed by a rehearsal of the ceremony.
  • Knights are given the opportunity of practicing any office of their choice or merely use the rehearsal to remind and familiarise themselves with the ceremony. It also provides an opportunity to meet other knights of the province and make new friends and contacts in the order.

The preceptors of the P of I are provincial officers who give guidance and instruction on how the ritual should be performed and is required to be performed in the Province of Essex.

For those knights who have aspirations of becoming a member of the Provincial Prior's Bodyguard attendance at P of I is a mandatory requirement.
